Lucknow: A road accident on Wednesday morning claimed the lives of a woman and her elder daughter, while the younger daughter sustained injuries after a speeding truck rammed into them from behind as they were walking to school in the Maharajganj area of Rae Bareli district.The accident occurred around 8am near Thulwasa market when Bitana Maurya was escorting her two daughters — 15-year-old Anushka Maurya and 11-year-old Aaradhya Maurya — to school. Locals said the three were walking along the roadside when a truck travelling from Maharajganj towards Raebareli lost control and ploughed into them.The impact was so severe that Bitana Maurya and her elder daughter, Anushka, died on the spot. The younger child, Aaradhya, suffered minor injuries and was taken by local residents to the community health centre (CHC), Maharajganj, where she is currently undergoing treatment. Doctors stated that her condition is stable.The tragedy left the family shattered. Bitana’s brother, Shailendra Maurya, said her husband, Ram Raj Maurya, works in a private firm in Ahmedabad. “My sister was living in Thulwasa solely for the education of her daughters. She was taking them to school when the truck hit them from behind,” he said, breaking down.Police reached the spot on receiving information, took the bodies into custody and sent them for post-mortem examination. Kotwali in-charge Jagdish Yadav said that the truck and its driver were taken into custody. A case is being registered on the basis of the family’s complaint, and further legal proceedings are underway.
