You may need rain gear again on Feb 2 & 3, alerts Met

Lucknow: It was a pleasant morning as light rain and strong winds lashed the city on intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday. Met officials said more rain was expected in first week of Feb due to a fresh western disturbance over Pakistan and Afghanistan. Western part of UP will receive rain on Feb 1-2 and eastern part of the state, including Lucknow, may receive rain on Feb 2 and 3.On Wednesday, total rainfall recorded in the city was around 1.2 mm at Amausi airport and 5.6 mm At Met department control room in Aliganj. Along with Lucknow, adjoining areas too received light to moderate rainfall, with 17.5 mm recorded at Malihabad, while 24 mm at Barabanki. This spell improved huge rain deficit the state faced, as the total winter rainfall received in Jan in the state was 22% below normal. In Lucknow, departure from normal winter rain was 39% deficit, while in UP west it was a 67% deficit, while in UP east it was 40% below normal.According to Met officials, rain was received by Lucknow and other parts of western UP due to western disturbance and high moisture content. Rain and cloudy sky brought down day temperature, which fell back to normal. On Wednesday, maximum temperature in city was 21.6 degrees Celsius, 2.1 degrees Celsius below normal, while minimum temperature rose to 14.2 degrees Celsius, 5.6 degrees Celsius above normal. Night temperature went up as it was a night with overcast sky. It was warmer because clouds acted as a barrier that trapped terrestrial radiation, preventing heat absorbed by the earth during the day from escaping into space.“There is less possibility of rain in next three to four days but another rainy spell will be witnessed by the city on Feb 3 and 4, as a fresh western disturbance is likely to hover over Pakistan and Afghanistan, bringing rains to the plains. The city will witness comparatively cooler nights as the minimum temperatures will be back to normal, which were earlier high due to sunny days,” said Mohammad Danish, senior scientist of the state Met Department. He added that on Thursday, there will be shallow to moderate fog in the morning and mainly clear sky in daytime. Maximum and minimum temperatures will be around 23 and 11 degrees Celsius, respectively. Meanwhile, across the state, weather is most likely to remain dry. Dense fog is very likely at isolated places over the state.
