Gurgaon: National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is planning to construct a three-kilometre flyover along Narsingpur on Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway. The proposal — aimed at resolving traffic congestion on one of the city’s busiest stretches — was discussed during a review meeting held on Wednesday between NHAI chairman Santosh Kumar and GMDA CEO PC Meena in Delhi. The NHAI chairman directed officials to start preparing a detailed project report (DPR) for the structure. The stretch between the Hero Honda Chowk flyover and the Dwarka Expressway cloverleaf is a regular bottleneck on Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway. Congestion builds up as traffic from the Hero Honda flyover, which is a four-lane section, merges into a three-lane main carriageway near Narsingpur, causing sudden slowdowns. The service road is also in poor condition, forcing more local vehicles onto the main carriageway and adding to the load, while unauthorised cuts create chokepoints. With villages and industrial units along the corridor, the volume remains high through the day, worsening delays during peak hours. An NHAI official said, “While the instructions were given to start preparing the DPR, the alignment, design and lane configuration will be finalised only after a study. The proposal is currently at a conceptual stage and will be studied at the concept level first.”According to officials, the meeting focused on road infrastructure upgrades, improved connectivity, congestion mitigation measures and public safety, with both agencies agreeing to coordinate closely on implementation.Decongestion of Rajeev Chowk was a key focus. Officials said two elevated grade separators are being planned to improve traffic flow and reduce bottlenecks on the stretch. For commuters travelling from Delhi towards Sohna, NHAI proposed a left-turn elevated ramp from the main carriageway of NH8 to the main carriageway of NH248A. The plan also includes an exit to the service road. For traffic moving from Sohna towards Delhi, a right-turn elevated ramp was proposed to connect the main carriageway of NH248A with the main carriageway of NH8. Provision will also be made for vehicles from the NH248A service road to access the elevated ramp.Officials said the work will be prioritised to ease congestion and strengthen connectivity between Sohna and Delhi-Mumbai Expressway. Officials were asked to engage with stakeholders to address bottlenecks, including land-related issues that may affect construction of the proposed elevated corridors. Both NHAI chairman and GMDA CEO underlined the need for stronger inter-agency coordination to ensure timely execution of projects aimed at improving mobility, safety and commuter convenience across Gurgaon. The GMDA CEO said, “GMDA is laying a stormwater drain up to Badshapur to address the issue of waterlogging along the Narsingpur service lane. To improve the drainage network, NHAI will construct a culvert on NH8. Both agencies will jointly prepare an execution plan for the work.”Pedestrian safety measures along NH8 were also discussed, with a proposal to construct new foot overbridges (FOBs) at multiple locations. Under the plan, GMDA will identify stretches where FOBs are required, while NHAI will take up construction. After completion, the FOBs will be handed over to GMDA for maintenance. Officials said the FOBs will be equipped with ramps and lifts to improve accessibility and safety. They are also expected to help streamline two-wheeler movement and reduce pressure on the main carriageway. The issue of waterlogging and flooding at underpasses on NHAI stretches during the monsoon season also came up for discussion. It was decided that engineering teams from both agencies will carry out joint inspections of identified locations and take up works needed to strengthen stormwater drain connectivity. The GMDA official said, “Coordinated site visits will be conducted to prepare an action plan for other vulnerable locations where stormwater drainage links or sewerage solutions are required ahead of the monsoon.”
