Gurgaon: Residents woke up to a cold and overcast sky, with no sunshine throughout the day and subdued temperatures. IMD issued a yellow alert for a cold wave and dense fog at isolated places, warning that colder nights were likely over the next two days.Despite a rise in night temperature, IMD data showed conditions remained wintry through the day. The city recorded a minimum temperature of 13.2°C at its Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) automatic weather station, up by 5.2°C from Monday, while the maximum hovered between 17°C and 17.5°C at the city’s two automatic weather stations, staying below normal.The city also received around 3mm of rainfall in the past 24 hours under the influence of an active western disturbance, adding to the chill. Across Haryana, daytime temperatures remained suppressed, with IMD noting that average maximum temperatures were about 3.5°C below normal on Tuesday.Bhiwani was the coldest place in the state at 5.5°C, while Nuh in Mewat recorded the highest daytime temperature at 19.8°C. Faridabad reported a minimum temperature of 12.5°C and a maximum of 18.2°C.IMD attributed the gloomy weather to a cyclonic circulation associated with a western disturbance over Jammu and adjoining areas. Another fresh western disturbance was likely to affect northwest India from the night of Jan 30.The weather office forecast light to moderate rainfall at many places in Haryana on Feb 1, with isolated showers on Jan 31 and Feb 3. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds of 30–40 kmph were also likely at isolated places on Feb 1.Under the yellow alert, IMD warned of cold wave conditions and dense fog at isolated locations in Haryana until Jan 30. Minimum temperatures across the city and neighbouring districts were expected to dip by 2–4°C over the next 48 hours before rising gradually by 3–5°C after Feb 1.Officials said early-morning visibility in Gurgaon and NCR districts could be impacted, advising commuters to remain cautious.
