The Hyundai Creta is due for a generation change, and the first clues of what’s coming next have now surfaced. The next-gen Creta has been spotted testing in South Korea for the first time, giving us an early look at the SUV in development.The second-generation Creta was launched in 2020, followed by a facelift update a little over two years ago. With the arrival of new mid-size SUVs such as the upcoming Sierra, the next-generation Seltos and the new Duster, the segment has become more competitive, making a generational update for the Creta both timely and necessary.
The test mule, as seen in the above image, is heavily camouflaged, making it difficult to identify any specific design elements at this stage. However, the overall silhouette appears to be noticeably different from the current model, hinting at a major change in proportions and styling. The next-generation Creta will be based on an all-new platform and will undergo a complete design overhaul. It is likely to adopt a much sleeker and more contemporary styling approach, making it look entirely different from the outgoing model. The new platform is also expected to allow for larger overall dimensions, which should translate into a stronger road presence and improved interior space.
Internally codenamed SX3, the new Creta is expected to be underpinned by Hyundai’s new K3 platform, the same architecture that debuted on the next-generation Seltos launched a few months ago. Powertrain options are expected to remain largely unchanged and are likely to include a 1.5-litre diesel engine producing 118 hp, a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol unit with 113 hp, and a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine delivering 150 hp. Transmission choices are expected to include manual and iMT gearboxes, along with CVT, automatic and dual-clutch transmission options.
A hybrid powertrain could also be on the cards, as Hyundai has already signalled its plans to expand its hybrid offerings in India, and the next-generation Creta is widely expected to be part of this broader strategy. However, Hyundai has not confirmed any details yet, and these updates remain speculative at this stage. The next-generation Creta is expected to feature an all-new interior layout with more advanced features, while the new K3 platform is also likely to bring safety improvements.
