Kanpur: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur is promoting scientific temper among students through its innovative Science Bus Project. The Science Bus Project was initiated by prof Deepu Philip and prof Satyaki Roy of the IIT-K, in collaboration with the Council of Science & Technology, Uttar Pradesh (CST UP), to popularise scientific temper, a creative mindset, and hands-on learning among students in remote and underserved regions of UP. The Science Bus, UP78 LN7016, has all necessary permits from various govt departments towards the end of 2025. At present, it is stationed at the Veer Bahadur Singh Purvanchal University campus for approximately one month, from where it is visiting nearby schools. Vice-chancellor, Veer Bahadur Singh Purvanchal University Prof Vandana Singh, along with project executive officer, IIT-K Rachana Agarwal, emphasised that experimental learning plays a crucial role in fostering scientific curiosity, innovative thinking, and logical reasoning among students. Children, particularly those from remote rural locations, underprivileged communities, and single-teacher schools, can utilise the Science Bus to perform experiments that they are otherwise unable to conduct.
