Kanpur: A fire broke out in 10 MVA power transformer at Old RPH power station in the city resulting in a power outage in several areas.The transformer burst into flames causing panic in the surrounding area. Power station employees began efforts to control the fire using fire safety equipment. A fire department team also reached the spot. There were no reports of casualties. The damage is estimated to have caused a loss of around Rs 90 lakh to KESCO.KESCO media in-charge Devendra Verma said that the power transformer at RPH Old power station burnt out. Repair work was being done and efforts were being made to restore power supply in limited areas through alternative arrangements. The managing director has ordered an investigation in the incident, he said adding that if negligence was found at any level, strict action would be taken against those responsible.
