Jewellery theft accused arrested

Kanpur: Police arrested a jewellery theft accused, Vishal alias Kallu, after an encounter late Tuesday night. Police said the accused was wanted in the theft of 3 kgs of silver jewellery from a showroom in Jarauli Phase-2 and had earlier escaped from police custody.DCP (South) Deependra Nath Chaudhary that police received information that the accused was seen in Banpurwa. Acting on the tip-off, a team cordoned off the area. When the police spotted him and asked him to stop, he opened fire and tried to flee. In retaliatory action by the cops, a bullet hit his right leg and he was arrested before being taken to hospital for treatment. After medical examination, he will be sent to jail, the DCP added.According to police, on the night of Dec 14, 2025, three masked men broke the shutter of a showroom, owned by Gaurav Verma, in Jarauli Phase-2 and stole around 3 kgs of silver jewellery. Based on CCTV footage, police cracked the case on Dec 20 and arrested Vishal Gupta alias Mannu Bihari of Gujaini village and Karan of Mayapuram Kachchi Basti, Gujaini, sending them to jail. Vishal alias Kallu, a resident of Shivaji Puliya in Barra police station area, had been absconding since then. He was arrested by Gujaini police on the night of Jan 14 while planning to commit a crime. On Jan 15, while being prepared to be sent to jail, he escaped from the police station after pushing a homeguard on the pretext of going to the bathroom.
