Bengaluru: In the latest twist in the electoral dispute over Jayanagar assembly constituency, the Supreme Court Wednesday dismissed a petition filed by MLA CK Ramamurthy, seeking a stay on trial proceedings in the case. The plea was rejected by a bench of Justices Vikram Nath, Sandeep Mehta and NV Anjaria.The BJP legislator approached the apex court after Karnataka high court refused to stall the election petition filed by Congress functionary Sowmya Reddy. With SC rejecting Ramamurthy’s plea, the hearing on Sowmya’s election petition will continue before the high court. In March 2025, the apex court dismissed another petition filed by Ramamurthy, challenging a high court order permitting a video clip to be admitted as evidence in the case.Ramamurthy won the Jayanagar seat in 2023 assembly elections by a razor-thin margin of 16 votes, defeating Sowmya, then incumbent MLA. The narrow victory sparked controversy, with Sowmya alleging irregularities and manipulation during recounting of votes, particularly involving a crucial ballot.
