Chennai: The Kasimedu police busted a child trafficking racket by arresting nine people, including six women and a village administrative officer’s assistant and her husband, and rescued a one-month-old baby boy from a childless couple in Erode. Police said the infant was sold for 3.80 lakh. The rescued child was admitted to a govt-run children’s home in Nungambakkam. The arrests followed a complaint lodged by district child protection officer Sri Murali, who informed the Kasimedu police that a newborn was sold through an illegal adoption arrangement. A special police team conducted an inquiry and traced the transaction.Police earlier arrested the child’s parents, Thilagavathi and Sahayaraj, and three intermediaries. TNN
