Four killed in 3 separate road accidents

Panaji/Margao/Ponda: Four people were killed in three separate road accidents on Wednesday.A brother and sister lost their lives when their car collided with another car on the Goa-Karnataka national highway near Astoli, Ramnagar. Rudrayya Shivannavar, 77, died instantly at the scene, while his sister, Renuka Hiremath, 60, succumbed to her injuries later at a hospital in Ramnagar. The driver, Shivraj Shivannavar, 28, and another passenger, Basava Shivannavar, 70, were seriously injured and were later transferred to Belagavi for further treatment.The family, originally from Hubballi, had recently been residing in Ponda.They were returning from a three-day trip when the accident occurred. A 28-year-old scooterist, Ulhas Gaonkar, lost his life after being struck by a speeding car on Wednesday. The incident took place at 6.45am on the Margao-Cuncolim stretch of NH 66. Police reports indicate that Gaonkar, a resident of Gaonkarwado in Panzorconi, was crossing the road when the vehicle collided with his scooter, dragging both him and the scooter for some distance.Gaonkar suffered severe injuries, particularly to his head, and succumbed to his injuries en route to the South Goa district hospital in Margao. The driver of the car has been charged with rash and negligent driving, which endangered human life.Another fatal accident at Merces on Tuesday, resulted in the death of a 27-year-old woman after the driver of the vehicle she was travelling in lost control.The incident took place near Anjunem dam when the driver, Nandakumar Naik, 60, reportedly drove recklessly while heading from Belagavi to Goa. An FIR was registered on Wednesday against Naik by Valpoi police.The crash involved five passengers, including the deceased and Naik’s wife, who all sustained injuries.
