Hyderabad: Telangana deputy chief minister, Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, said that the Congress govt was prioritising the welfare of Singareni workers.In a statement on Tuesday, he said that several welfare measures had been initiated for Singareni workers over the past two years, including medical invalidation and other benefits such as insurance.
He confirmed that the issue relating to the change of names of Singareni employees would be resolved as soon as possible. Regarding medical invalidation, he assured that all issues relating to workers’ ailments would be resolved by the relevant medical boards.In accordance with Coal India norms, just as Singareni provides all facilities (including tax-related benefits) for officers, the govt will set up a committee to ensure that the same facilities are extended to Singareni workers.“To fulfil the dream of Singareni employees to own a house, the govt will provide housing support as recommended by the IFoRE committee,” he said.The deputy CM said that an accident insurance cover of ₹1.25 crore — unprecedented anywhere in the country — had been provided to all Singareni employees. This accident insurance scheme, introduced for Singareni employees, was recognised nationwide as a model scheme.He said that a free accident insurance scheme of ₹40 lakh was issued to the 30,000 contract workers employed by Singareni. In the 2024–25 financial year, Singareni recorded its highest ever profits, amounting to ₹6,394 crore. Of this, ₹802 crore (34%) was paid to workers as a profit share. He added that an additional profit share of ₹5,500 was paid to outsourced service personnel.
