Lucknow: A performance by over 200 artists from 9 states during the parade on Vidhan Sabha Marg and a tricolour dance presentation by children freed from begging were some of the highlights of the 77th Republic Day celebrations in Lucknow on Monday.While Governor Anandiben Patel unfurled the national flag and took the salute, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, several ministers, officers and other guests boosted the morale of the participants. A govt spokesperson said the parade showcased the state’s defence corps, culture and student power brought together under the umbrella of national unity and cooperation. “This year, in a first for the state’s Republic Day programme, more than 200 artists from Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Jammu & Kashmir, Gujarat, Bihar, Sikkim, Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh and Chhattisgarh performed during the parade on Vidhan Sabha Marg. The performances were based on the theme of ‘Ek Bharat-Shreshta Bharat’. Contingents from various regiments of the Indian Army marched to their brass bands, along with Uttar Pradesh Police, Home Guard, 32nd and 35th battalions of PAC, Women PAC force, Provincial Defence Corps and NCC cadets. The Haryana Police contingent was especially invited to participate in the parade. The tableau by the Information Department depicted the state’s heritage and development works.
