Rain, thunderstorms lash Kanpur division

Kanpur: As forecast by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the Kanpur division witnessed light to moderate seasonal rainfall from Tuesday evening, bringing relief from prevailing dry conditions. The IMD had predicted thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, gusty winds and light to moderate rain across western Uttar Pradesh, including the Kanpur region. Light rainfall began around 7 pm, marking a clear change in weather conditions. Weather experts attributed the shift to a fresh western disturbance, which is likely to cause rain along with strong winds across the entire Kanpur division during the night and into Wednesday. Weather expert S Sunil Pandey of CSA University said wind speeds could range between 5 and 10 kmph. Speaking to The Times of India, he said the region may receive rainfall between 10 mm and 15 mm from Tuesday night till Wednesday afternoon. He added that temperatures were expected to dip due to the rain, while cloudy skies with intermittent sunshine were likely later in the day. Pandey also advised farmers to postpone irrigation activities for the next three to four days, cautioning that strong winds combined with waterlogged fields could cause damage to standing crops. Meanwhile, the city recorded a minimum temperature of 10°C, which was 2.6°C above normal, while the maximum temperature stood at 24°C, around 2.9°C higher than average. Maximum relative humidity was recorded at 92%, and easterly winds were measured at a speed of 3 kmph.
