SP chief renews pledge to protect Constitution

Lucknow: Renewing the pledge to safeguard the Constitution of India, Samajwadi Party (SP) national president Akhilesh Yadav on Monday unfurled the tricolour at party headquarters to mark the Republic Day celebrations.Extending greetings to the nation on the Republic Day, Akhilesh urged every citizen of India to take a pledge to protect democracy and the Constitution. He said: ā€œAaiye is vishesh Gantantra Diwas par desh ke Gantantra ke aadhar – Jantantra — aur uske aadhar Samvidhan ki raksha ka vishisht sankalp uthayeinā€ (On this special Republic Day, let us take a solemn pledge to safeguard the foundation of our Republic — democracy — and its cornerstone, the Constitution). He described the Republic Day as unique in India’s independent history referring to the fact that the date was 26 and the year was (20)26 as well.The call for protecting the Constitution comes at a time when the SP chief had accused the BJP govts at the Centre and in the state of destroying the constitutional institutions of the country.
