Ghaziabad: Two cousins died after a fodder-laden tractor-trolley overturned and fell into the drain adjacent to the Modinagar-Hapur road in Bhojpur, crushing them as they slept on it.The victims, Hasim (22) and Akib (20), from Bagpat, were labourers and were transporting the fodder to a relative’s place. Police said the cousins were trapped under the fodder heap for about an hour, while the tractor driver and his aide sustained minor injuries.ACP Modinagar Amit Saxena said the accident occurred around 1am on Monday near Nahali. A passerby informed the police, and they arrived at the scene with an ambulance. Police took out their bodies and sent them to a hospital. Their post-mortem was conducted and reports are awaited.“Preliminary investigation revealed that the trolley was overloaded. The driver Ubaid and his aide Irfan fled the scene,” he said.A senior police officer said that the vehicle was overloaded, the road was damaged and there was no boundary along the drain. As soon as the trolley’s wheel hit a pothole, the trolley lost balance and overturned along with the tractor.The ACP said that no complaint has been filed by the cousin’s family members in the matter yet. Police will take action once they receive the complaint. However, cops are checking the footage from the nearby CCTV cameras to figure out what happened.
