Ahmedabad: A 29-year-old woman has accused a hospital employee of sexually assaulting her while she was admitted to the intensive care unit following an overdose attempt. A complaint in this regard was lodged with Sabarmati police on Monday. According to the FIR, the woman, who got married two years ago, was living with her parents following marital discord with her husband and in-laws. The complaint stated that on the night of Oct 19, the woman consumed multiple sleeping pills. Her parents rushed her to a hospital in Sabarmati, where she was admitted to the ICU for treatment. Owing to the medication, she was semi-conscious and confined to her bed.In her statement, the woman alleged that in the early hours of Oct 20, she felt someone molesting her. She told police that she woke up startled and shouted for help, which sent the person, who was standing near her bed, fleeing the ICU through a door nearby. She informed other staff members on duty and asked them to call her parents. When her parents arrived, she narrated the incident. The woman’s father reportedly asked hospital authorities to check CCTV footage from the ICU area, but the request was allegedly ignored. The family later learnt the identity of the staffer who was present in the ward at the time, police said.The woman was discharged from the hospital later that day. However, her condition reportedly deteriorated the same night, after which she was taken to another medical facility for further treatment. Even after returning home, she continued to suffer from headaches and discomfort and subsequently sought outpatient treatment. She also stayed with relatives for some time to recover, the FIR stated.After her health improved, the woman approached Sabarmati police and lodged a complaint of sexual harassment against the hospital staffer.
