Lucknow: The Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), the student arm of the RSS, said on Tuesday that it appreciated the core objectives of the notification issued by the University Grants Commission (UGC), titled, ‘University Grants Commission (Regulations for the Promotion of Equity in Higher Education Institutions), 2026′, but believed that clarity and balance were essential in these regulations. The parishad said in a statement that it believed that the UGC and all educational institutions must uphold the spirit inherent in democracy, where every citizen has equal rights and India remains free from discrimination and inequality. “The ABVP has always worked towards creating a positive and equitable environment on educational campuses and has advocated for the promotion of democratic values. To realise the vision of a ‘Developed India’ in the coming years, we all need to make collective efforts,” the student organisation said. The ABVP said that it urged the UGC to take immediate cognisance of the ambiguity and misconceptions currently prevailing among society, students, and parents regarding some provisions and terminology of these regulations, and to take prompt action to prevent any kind of divisive situation from arising. It is noteworthy that this matter is currently under consideration in court; therefore, the ABVP believed that the UGC should clarify its position and file an affidavit in court without delay. National general secretary of SBVP Virendra Singh Solanki said, “Ensuring harmony and equality on educational campuses is imperative, and the ABVP has always strived for this. There should be social equality for all sections of society on educational campuses, and there is no place for any kind of discrimination on these campuses.” He said that there were misconceptions among students, parents, and stakeholders regarding these regulations, and the UGC should immediately provide clarification by engaging in dialogue with all stakeholders to address these concerns.
