Tech company executive in Bengaluru booked for €8 million data heist

Bengaluru: A former senior executive of Amadeus Software Labs India (P) Ltd has been booked by Whitefield CEN Crime police for allegedly stealing proprietary source code and confidential data worth nearly €8 million. An FIR was filed on Jan 23.The accused, Ashutosh Nigam, served as senior manager–research scientist at the company, located in Prestige Tech Park, Kadubeesanahalli. A resident of Prestige Shantiniketan Apartments on IPTL Road in Bengaluru, Nigam hails from Saketh Nagar at Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh. He is alleged to have illegally accessed company systems on Oct 11 last year and transferred the source code and other data to his personal email account without consent. “The exfiltration of the source code has caused severe loss to the company apart from compromising the company’s intellectual property rights,” the complaint stated.The breach was discovered through internal monitoring. Following this, the company confronted Nigam, who reportedly admitted to the act. He has been charged with data theft, unauthorised access, manipulation, and fraudulent exploitation of company computer systems and records. His employment was subsequently terminated on Dec 3.Nigam had been with Amadeus since Feb 1, 2020, following its asset purchase agreement with Innovative Scheduling LLC. The case has been registered under Sections 65, 66, and 66(C) of the Information Technology Act-2000.
