KGMU to construct new 7-storey OPD complex at 4.8 acres UP govt land

Lucknow: A new seven-storey, multi-specialty OPD complex will be built at KGMU on land provided by the UP govt, vice-chancellor Prof Soniya Nityanand said on Tuesday. The land, earlier belonging to the Govt Girls’ Inter College, was allotted to the university for the expansion of outpatient services at improving patient experience and reducing overcrowding in current facilities. At present, OPD services at KGMU operate from multiple buildings, including the new OPD block and the cardiology, gynaecology, mental health, respiratory medicine, orthopaedics, and rheumatology departments. This scattered arrangement often causes inconvenience to patients, especially those requiring consultations in more than one department. Every day, around 7,000 to 8,000 patients from across UP and neighbouring states visit KGMU. Prof Nityanand said that once the new complex is operational, patients will not be required to enter the main campus for outpatient consultations. The new OPD building will have large waiting areas, with seating capacity for more than 200 patients outside each doctor’s chamber. The aim is to ensure that patients and their attendants can access all essential services under one roof in a more organised and comfortable environment. In terms of medical services, the new OPD complex will house blood collection counters and a full range of diagnostic facilities. Radiology services such as CT scan, X-ray, ECG, and ultrasound will be available within the building. Separate counters for registration, report distribution, and fee collection will also be set up to streamline patient flow.
