VMC clears encroachments around Nyay Mandir

Vadodara: As part of its drive to clear space around heritage monuments, the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) ensured that florists doing business near Nyay Mandir for decades were given alternative space. Many vehicles parked around the monument were also removed.Nyay Mandir was vacated in March 2018 after the new court complex came up in Diwalipura. The monument will be developed as a centre with a city museum, gallery and other facilities. The florists operating near Nyay Mandir were given space near Laheripura Gate. On Tuesday, they moved to the new space and will now operate from there. Sources in the VMC said they were the only street vendors operating there during the day for quite some time. After the space was cleared, it emerged that several vehicles had been lying near Nyay Mandir for a long time. These vehicles were removed, along with others that were wrongly parked. City police and VMC also cleared roads in the Mangal Bazaar, Kalamandir lane and Kalupura areas of the city. Besides encroachments, vehicles parked on the road were also removed during the drive.
