All RTOs told to speed up revenue collection | Jaipur News

Jaipur: Transport department has directed all Regional Transport Offices (RTOs) to prioritise traffic challan issuance year-round, not just during road safety campaigns.Officials said consistent enforcement will increase revenue and improve compliance with traffic rules. RTOs have been asked to set monthly revenue targets, including benchmarks such as issuing 10 challans a day for overloaded vehicles.

The department has also written to RTOs that were behind on revenue targets through Dec for the current financial year.“With proper enforcement, road safety will improve and people will follow traffic norms too. Proper enforcement throughout the year automatically generates revenue for the department,” a senior official said.At a review meeting on Jan 22, the transport commissioner flagged widespread irregularities in private sleeper buses, saying action was visible only in Jaipur. The commissioner directed all district transport officers (DTOs) to take strict action.DTOs were told to verify permits and fitness certificates for all vehicles. Officials also indicated that IDs of inspectors generating the least revenue in each region could be suspended. RTOs in Bharatpur, Alwar, Jaipur (I), and Chittorgarh are lagging in revenue collection this year.
