Ludhiana: Police have identified three primary suspects in the Jamalpur killing of Pardeep Kumar Billa, a Ram Nagar resident who was himself a fugitive at the time of his death. The 20-year-old wanted man was shot in a public park in a long-standing feud between criminal gangs.Investigators have also arrested a woman associate for allegedly providing the gunmen with shelter following the murder. Billa was found on Jan 21 with a fatal gunshot to the temple. Despite carrying an illegal pistol in his waistband at the time of the attack, he was reportedly unable to draw the weapon before he was killed.
Assistant commissioner of police (Industrial Area-B) Inderjit Singh Boparai has said the murder was the culmination of a violent history between the victim and his attackers. “The accused trio and Billa had an old rivalry with multiple prior scuffles and cross-FIRs (first-information reports) filed against each other,” ACP Boparai said. “We believe this rivalry was the direct motive for the killing.”Preliminary investigations suggest the parties had initially met in the park under the guise of resolving their differences. However, the meeting quickly devolved into a verbal altercation, ending when the suspects opened fire. The victim had a significant criminal history, with seven FIRs registered against him. At the time of his murder, he was wanted for a high-profile “murder attempt” on Oct 21, 2025. In that incident, Billa and an accomplice allegedly shot and injured a 22-year-old labourer, Asgar, during a dispute intended for another man. While the main gunmen remain at large, the arrest of their woman accomplice has provided detectives with fresh leads. “The cops are conducting coordinated raids to catch the main accused,” ACP Boparai said. “The woman who sheltered them is in custody currently and being questioned regarding their whereabouts.”
