Bengaluru: The Republic Day flower show at Lalbagh, which attracted 8.1 lakh visitors over 12 days, generated 47 metric tonnes of waste.A team of volunteers, led by the NGO Saahas, worked alongside the department of horticulture to manage waste effectively throughout the event. The teams monitored rubbish levels in bins, coordinated with waste collection vehicles to ensure regular clearance, and educated visitors to avoid littering, said Smita Kulkarni of Saahas. “They also picked up litter while plogging in Lalbagh,” she added. In total, 18 waste collection staff and four vehicles were deployed to keep the gardens clean.
