CHANDIGARH: To bolster India’s national readiness against natural and man-made calamities, Western Command Headquarters, in collaboration with the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), is set to host a high-level joint seminar and exhibition on ‘disaster risk resilience’ on Jan 28.The conclave will bring together senior military leadership, NDMA officials, policymakers and industry experts to deliberate on strengthening civil-military coordination, adoption of advanced technologies and development of robust disaster response frameworks.“The event marks a pivotal shift in national strategy, moving from reactive relief to proactive resilience. The conclave will assemble military leadership, NDMA policymakers, and industry experts to streamline the synergy between civil authorities and Indian Army — the nation’s ‘preferred responder’ during crises,” says an Army statement.Among the key focus areas are civil-military coordination (CIMIC), in which the aim is to enhance unified command structures to optimize response during the critical ‘golden hour’, and technology integration, specifically the role of AI, satellite communications and indigenous tech in disaster mitigation.Policy evolution is a crucial aspect, where a standardized framework will lead to rapid resource deployment across state and departmental borders.A highlight of the event will be a specialized exhibition showcasing cutting-edge ‘Make in India’ disaster response technology, where people can get a first-hand look at next-generation CBRN (chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear) protection gear, AI-driven early warning systems, and advanced high-altitude rescue equipment and trauma care modules.“As we face increasingly unpredictable climate challenges, this conclave serves as a vital platform to synchronize our ‘boots on the ground’ with the latest strategic innovations,” said a spokesperson for Western Command.The event underscores the commitment of Indian armed forces and NDMA to create a ‘zero-fail’ ecosystem, ensuring the safety of citizens and security of critical national infrastructure, the Army said.
