Matt Damon shared his unforgettable experience working with Clint Eastwood on ‘Invictus,’ where the director’s swift direction, often just one take, surprised him. Damon recalled extensive preparation for a challenging South African accent, only for Eastwood to declare ‘Cut. Print. Move on.’ immediately. This contrasted with ‘Hereafter,’ where patience was key with a child actor.

In one of his recent interviews, ‘The Rip’ actor Matt Damon opened up about his experience while working with Clint Eastwood, and how he will never forget it. Recalling their 2009 film ‘Invictus’, the actor shared that he had prepped a lot for his role in the film, though Eastwood was not happy and shut him down when it was needed.

Matt Damon recalls working with Clint Eastwood

While talking to Conan O’Brien on his podcast ‘Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend’, the actor revealed that Eastwood was very strict while on the sets of ‘Invictus.’ “I was playing a South African rugby player. And that’s a really tough accent to do,” Damon revealed, further sharing that he practiced a lot in order to get it right. He practiced and trained for almost 6 months to get the accent right, and worked with famous dialogue coach Tim Monich.”“The very first take, I did it. Meanwhile, I’ve done this so many thousands of times. I have a number of different ways I’m thinking of doing the scene. He goes, ‘Cut. Print. Move on.’ And I go, ‘Hang on. Hang on. Boss, you want to do another one?’ And he goes, ‘Why? You wanna waste everybody’s time?’” Damon added, sharing that Clint knew what he was doing while directing the film.He then compared his experience with the director in their second film, ‘Hereafter.’ He cited that while filming ‘Invictus’, almost all of the scenes were done in one go. With ‘Hereafter’, however, since ‘The Rip’ actor was sharing the screen with a 9 year old child who had never acted before, they did more than 40 takes patiently.

Matt Damon recently paired up with close friend Ben Affleck for the OTT film ‘The Rip.’ The film centers around two Miami-Dade narcotics officers who raid a cartel house after their captain is targeted and murdered. Instead of drugs, they come across almost USD 20 million in cash at the house, which sets off a chain of chaotic events. Greed and betrayal start bleeding in, leaving the officers on their own as they no longer know who to trust anymore.

‘Invictus’ plot

‘Invictus’ is a 2009 film that was based on the real-life story of Nelson Mandela and his struggle for equality. The premise of the story was based on Josh Carlin’s book titled ‘Playing the Enemy: Nelson Mandela and the Game That Made a Nation.’ The story follows Mandela teaming up with a soccer player in an attempt to reunite South Africa over their shared love for the sport.
