Quote of the day by Sri Aurobindo: "Our works are part of an indivisible cosmic action"

Sri Aurobindo was a famous philosopher, yogi and a poet. He advocated for Purna Swaraj. He left politics for the spiritual pursuits. His ideology was to transform the world by living in it and not by escaping the world. Sri Aurobindo’s statement – “Our works are part of an indivisible cosmic action” reveals a deep spiritual vision of human activity. Let’s understand more in detail:The foundation of the knowledge upon which the practitioner of yoga must base all of his actions and growth is an increasingly tangible sense of unity, the living sense of an all-pervading oneness; he moves in the growing awareness of all existence as an indivisible whole, and all work is a part of this divine indivisible whole. His individual activity and its outcomes can no longer be or appear to be a distinct movement that is primarily or totally dictated by the egoistic “free” will of an individual who is distinct from the multitude.

Illusion of Doership

Human beings believe that they take actions, they achieve, they fail and they do everything but according to him its a mental construction because universal consciousness work through individual forms. We are just a medium through which a larger will expresses itself. If we remember this that we are not doing anything, we are just a medium then the action becomes harmonious and balanced but if you forget this then your ego dominates the actions and you think you are a doing everything.

Cosmic Action

According to Sri Aurobindo, the universe is interconnected and nothing works independently for example, a wave can not be separated from the ocean similarly individual’s actions can not be separated from the cosmic movement.

Actions can be spiritual

According to him, the actions can be spiritual if they are performed selflessly without ego, attachment to the results, and with awareness. People should recognize their work as a pert of cosmic action that can transform their labor into sacred participation. You actions should be sacred that you can offer them to the divine power.

Relevance of this quote in modern life

In today’s world, people usually feel disappointed if they are not able to achieve their goals. They suffer because they compare their lives with others, become jealous, and have a fear of failure but they forget that they are just participating in the world by doing their actions and stop thinking that you are doing something. They are no one, everything is happening according to the cosmic order. For example – if you achieve something, it’s already planned by the divine power, and if you fail in achieving something then think you did your best, that’s all you could do and take it as a cosmic result of your actions.
