Jalpaiguri: A 60-year-old allegedly raped a minor in Cooch Behar’s Mekhliganj. The man had allegedly also threatened the girl of consequences if she spoke to anyone about the assault. The incident came to light on Saturday, two days after the alleged rape. The accused has been remanded in three days’ police custody.As news, clashes took place between a section of locals and the police on Saturday night. During the violence, Mekhliganj OC Md Shahbaz and a few other cops were injured. Locals accused police of inaction. Road blockades were set up and tyres were burnt. Nine have been arrested and sent in judicial remand for a week.
On Sunday, a 12-hour bandh was observed in Jamaldaha area.
