Guwahati: Leaders of Assam’s major opposition parties on Sunday met state chief electoral officer Anurag Goel and submitted a memorandum against alleged ‘vote chori’, claiming that a large number of genuine voters were finding their names deleted from the voters’ list during Special Revision (SR).They also alleged that victims of eviction drives were being deprived of registering their names in the voter list.Leader of opposition, Debabrata Saikia, said, ‘vote chori’ was being executed by dropping names of voters from the minority community or voters who might not vote for BJP. Saikia, along with Raijor Dal president Akhil Gogoi, AJP president Lurinjyoti Gogoi and several other opposition leaders, met Goel to lodge their grievances.The memorandum to the state CEO states “illegal, arbitrary and unlawful” bulk objections were filed against genuine voters mainly on the grounds of dead and permanently shifted voters.“The concerned electoral registration officers of the legislative assembly constituencies have been issuing notices on such illegal objections by giving very short time and also without mentioning the ground of objections in the notice,” it said.
