Silchar: Assam Rifles, in a joint operation with Manipur Police, recovered a large cache of explosives during a mobile vehicle check on the Jiribam-Tipaimukh Road in Pherzawl district on Sunday.Security personnel intercepted an SUV during routine checking, prompting its occupants to abandon the vehicle and attempt to flee. After a brief chase, Assam Rifles troops arrested two persons and seized 30 gelatin sticks, 20 detonators, safety fuse, flexible wire, and about Rs 1 lakh in cash.Officials said the explosives are typically used in fabricating improvised explosive devices (IEDs) capable of causing mass casualties and extensive damage.The operation is part of an intensified crackdown against elements attempting to disrupt peace and stability in the region. Assam Rifles reiterated that miscreants already identified and under surveillance would be dealt with strictly.Locals praised the coordinated efforts of the force and police, noting that sustained security operations have helped restore a sense of safety along the vital stretch.
