Jaipur: Nagaur police raided a farmhouse and seized nearly 10,000kg of ammonium nitrate and other material used to make explosives late Saturday night. One person was arrested in this connection on charges of illegal storage and trafficking of explosives.“This was a very large consignment of explosives being stored in one place. It could have led to devastating consequences,” a police officer said. The massive haul of restricted explosives was found concealed in a house built on agricultural land in Sarhad Harsaur village in the district’s Thanwala police station area, police said. The raid by a joint posse of district special team (DST) and Thanwala police station personnel led to the recovery of 187 bags containing 9,550kg of ammonium nitrate, together with significant quantities of detonators, fuse wires and other components. The accused has been identified as Suleman Khan (58). Nagaur superintendent of police Mridul Kachhawa said Khan had three previous criminal cases registered against him.“A case was registered against the accused under relevant sections of the Explosives Act and BNS. We are interrogating him to trace the source of explosives, their intended use and possible links to a wider supply network,” an officer involved in the investigation said.Police have not ruled out the possibility of the explosives being intended for use in illegal mining activities.
