2 booked for murder bid

Ludhiana: Doraha police have filed an attempt to murder case against unidentified motorcycle-borne assailants after they allegedly opened fire at an Akali Dal (Waris Punjab De) member near Gurthali bridge on Saturday night. The complainant, Jaswant Singh Cheema, told the police that he was returning to Doraha from Ludhiana in his Innova car and was driving along the canal when two unidentified youths on a motorcycle signalled him to stop. He said he initially thought they wanted to ask for directions.

Cheema said when he saw one of the youths reach towards his waist, he sped up the vehicle but the accused fired a shot. He said he did not suffer any harm and immediately informed the police. He added that he had no enmity with anyone but suspected a particular individual, whose name he would share with the police.Party spokesperson Sandeep Singh Rupalo, who reached Doraha police station, said they had submitted a complaint and police were acting on it. He demanded that the government probe the matter thoroughly and ensure immediate arrest of the accused.Police registered a case against unknown persons under Section 109 (attempt to murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and relevant sections of the Arms Act. SHO Dutt said investigation is underway.Police sources said there is no CCTV camera installed at the spot where the incident took place. DSP Karamjit Singh said prima facie, the case appears to be related to a monetary dispute.
