Bhubaneswar: After battling for life for nearly five months at AIIMS Bhubaneswar, Odia composer and singer Abhijit Majumdar passed away on Sunday. He was 54. Majumdar was undergoing treatment for a neurological disorder, pneumonia, chronic liver disease and other health issues.He was admitted to AIIMS in a comatose state on Sept 4 last year.
An official bulletin issued by AIIMS said Majumdar had multiple comorbid conditions, including hypertension, hypothyroidism, chronic liver disease due to osmotic demyelination syndrome, double pneumonia, a bloodstream infection, chronic liver disease, nutritional deficiency and other issues.After prolonged treatment in the medical ICU, he was shifted back to the medicine ward on Nov 10 last year for continuing care. “He was conscious and followed simple commands on a tracheostomy tube with stable vitals and was planned for discharge. However, he could not be discharged due to family/personal reasons,” the bulletin.Official sources said Majumdar developed an infection on Jan 23, which was managed as per standard protocol, but he did not respond to treatment and developed septic shock.“He suffered cardiac arrest at 7:43 am on Sunday, and CPR was started as per protocol. However, despite all resuscitation efforts, he could not be revived, and he was clinically declared dead at 9:02 am,” the bulletin added.Majumdar, who composed music for numerous blockbuster Odia films, enjoyed a massive fan following across the state. People from all walks of life expressed condolences after his demise. His well-wishers, friends and family members paid their last respects to the composer at his Cuttack residence.Majumdar, a native of Sambalpur, was residing in Cuttack for the last two and a half decades and composed film and album songs.CM Mohan Charan Majhi, Union minister Dharmendra Pradhan, leader of opposition Naveen Patnaik, ministers, politicians, and people from the music and film industry, among others, condoled his death.
