Burglars target elderly couple’s home in Ludhiana.

Ludhiana: A masked intruder scaled the walls of a house on Sham Nagar Road on Saturday afternoon, escaping with a significant haul of cash and gold while the homeowners were away. The daylight burglary has heightened security concerns for elderly residents in the area, particularly those living alone while their children reside abroad. The house owner, Harisha Rattan, 65, and his wife had locked their home in the early afternoon to attend to personal business. According to police, a masked man was captured on nearby footage jumping the boundary wall shortly after the couple’s departure. Upon returning several hours later, the Rattans discovered their front door breached and the interior of the house ransacked. Initial estimates provided to investigators suggest the thief made off with Rs 2 lakh in cash and about 100 g of gold jewellery.Officers from the local station arrived on the scene shortly after the couple raised the alarm. Preliminary findings indicate the burglar likely monitored the couple’s movements before striking. “The couple lives alone as their children are based overseas,” a police spokesperson said. “Statements are currently being recorded, and we are in the process of formalizing the first-information report (FIR).”Authorities are now scanning CCTV footage from Sham Nagar Road and adjacent lanes to track the suspect’s escape route. Residents have been advised to ensure all perimeter security measures are active, even during daylight hours.
