6 held, cash ornaments seized

Guwahati: A team from Fatasil Ambari Police Station arrested six suspected thieves on Saturday and recovered cash and gold ornaments, police said. The arrests come amid heightened concern in the area following the Ganeshpara robbery incident, which occurred under the station’s jurisdiction.Fatasil Ambari PS officer-in-charge Mukut Baishya said the action followed intelligence inputs about the movement of an organised group involved in theft and burglary across localities in the Fatasil Ambari area. Acting on specific information, the police team conducted an operation and nabbed six people.“The arrested persons are, Moinul Haque, Rahul Paswan, Abdul Malik, Prakash Sarkar, Tushar Shil and Bittoo Shaw. A case has been registered against them, under sections 331 (4) and 305 (a) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Act,” the OC said.Deputy commissioner of police (West district) Numal Mahatta said the operation was conducted overnight and led to the recovery of cash and jewellery. “This operation was carried out last night. We recovered Rs 17,000 cash from them along with two gold chains, three gold earrings, two golden bangles and a gold ring,” he added.Police said the accused will be produced before a local court and remand will be sought for further investigation. Patrols and surveillance have been intensified in sensitive areas, officers added.
