Jaisalmer: Solar and windmill projects worth crores of rupees, installed in the border district of Jaisalmer, and their power generation plants reportedly became targets of criminals, with massive thefts said to be creating fear among security personnel and villagers stationed in the area. Villagers and security personnel from half-a-dozen villages, including Bhopa, Dangri and Lakhasar, submitted a memorandum to the collector and SP Saturday, demanding strict action against a gang of criminals.In the memorandum, it was alleged that the gang is committing large-scale thefts at gunpoint and endangering the lives of security personnel. The complainants claimed that in the past one year, the gang carried out over 100 thefts. The memorandum stated that the gang operates in dark of the night with countless vehicles and weapons. Villagers directly accused 2-3 criminals of running the gang, alleging that the accused hid their vehicles during the day and create havoc after nightfall. tnn
