Youth held with 10000 detonators in Sribhumi

Silchar: Ahead of Republic Day, the Government Railway Police (GRP) arrested a youth with a large consignment of detonators during a routine check at Badarpur railway station in Assam’s Sribhumi district on Friday evening, triggering a security alert. The accused, identified as Akhil Ahmed of Basiram village under Nilambazar police station, was detained on Platform No 1 under suspicious circumstances. A search led to the recovery of 10,000 non-electronic detonators, packed in 20 bundles, police said. Following the seizure, senior police officials, including Sribhumi SP Leena Doley and Badarpur OC Tarang Patwary, rushed to the spot. A detailed probe was launched to ascertain the source of the detonators, their intended use and possible links to larger networks. The recovery, coming days before Republic Day, has raised concerns over potential sabotage or terror-related plans. While Sribhumi police remained tight-lipped on specifics, security has been significantly stepped up across the district. GRP and other forces have intensified checks and searches at railway stations and other sensitive locations. Further investigation is underway.
