Man brought to police station in harassment case flees

Vadodara: A man brought to the Gotri police station by a woman who accused him of harassing her daughter fled from the police station on Saturday, even before an offence was registered.According to police, the incident stemmed from the woman’s allegation that the man, who belongs to a different faith, had been troubling her daughter. She claimed that he had come to their house on multiple occasions, knocked on the door and fled. The woman further alleged that she spotted the man in the Bhayli area on Saturday and, with the help of others, confronted him. During the altercation, she claimed, the man injured her with a knife. He was subsequently overpowered and brought to the Gotri police station.A police official said the incident fell under the jurisdiction of the Vadodara taluka police station, which comes under Vadodara district police, whereas Gotri police station falls under Vadodara city police jurisdiction.“The woman was informed about the jurisdiction issue, but she insisted on registering the offence at Gotri police station as she had earlier submitted an application there regarding the harassment,” the official said. While the jurisdictional matter was being discussed, the man who had been brought to the police station managed to flee, the official added. As of Saturday night, no offence had been registered in the case.
