Times News NetworkChandigarh: The city witnessed a sharp drop in night temperature over the past 24 hours, with minimum temperature plunging by nearly 5 degrees Celsius as compared to the previous day. The sudden fall in temperature intensified the winter chill, making late-night and early morning hours significantly colder across the city. Residents felt a marked increase in discomfort due to cold winds and lingering moisture.According to the meteorological department, maximum temperature in the city on Tuesday was recorded at 14.7 degrees Celsius, around four degrees Celsius below normal for this time of the year. Minimum temperature settled at 5.3 degrees Celsius, nearly two degrees Celsius below normal, while night temperature stood at 10.6 degrees Celsius. Weather officials attributed the persistent chill to high humidity levels and moisture left behind by recent rainfall. Dense fog was reported in parts of the city in the morning, further reducing visibility and adding to the cold conditions.The weather department has predicted similar conditions over the next few days. Chandigarh is expected to experience mostly cloudy skies accompanied by moderate to dense fog during night and morning hours on Jan 25 and 26. Day temperature is likely to hover around 18 degrees Celsius, while night temperatures may remain low, in the range of 7 degrees Celsius to 8 degrees Celsius.Forecast from Jan 27 onwards indicates the possibility of partly cloudy sky with chances of light rain or thunderstorms. These conditions may keep temperatures subdued and extend the prevailing cold spell. Officials have advised residents to remain cautious during early morning and late-night travel due to fog-related visibility issues. People have also been urged to take adequate precautions against the cold.The city recorded 27.1mm rainfall on Friday.
