40k banned cough syrup bottles seized; three arrested

Kanpur: Etawah police have seized 40,000 bottles of a banned cough syrup and Rs 4.35 lakh in cash from the Friends Colony police station area, arresting three people and filing a case under the NDPS Act for alleged illegal smuggling.According to reports, Friends Colony police were checking vehicles and suspicious individuals at Bharthana intersection when an informant tipped them off about a container loaded with a large quantity of banned cough syrup parked in the Gaurapura area. Acting on the tip, the police team reached the spot. Police said they took three people into custody from a Bihar-registered car parked near the container. During interrogation, the accused said the cough syrup kept in the container belonged to them and was to be taken to Bihar. They said the syrup was banned in Bihar, so the driver left the container parked in Etawah. “The search led to the recovery of 40,000 bottles of cough syrup. Around 4.35 lakh rupees in cash were also recovered from the accused. We have seized the container and car and registered a case under sections of the NDPS Act,” said Circle Officer (City) Abhay Narain
