Patna gears up for 77th Republic Day with tight security

Patna: As part of arrangements for the 77th Republic Day celebrations, the district administration has deployed 136 magistrates at 77 locations in and around Gandhi Maidan, supported by women’s units and baton-wielding forces in four sectors to manage crowd control and security. The district control room will have 22 reserve magistrates on duty in three shifts.Patna DM Thiyagarajan S M and SSP Kartikeya K Sharma held a joint briefing on Saturday to outline preparations for the state-level Republic Day function.Public entry to the venue will begin at 7am through gates 5, 6 and 7 while guests and media persons will be allowed entry through gates 9 and 10. All guests have been asked to take their seats by 8.30am. After the ceremony concludes, all gates will be opened to facilitate the smooth exit of the crowd. The special branch will conduct anti-sabotage checks on all vehicles and equipment before granting access to the venue.Security arrangements include the installation of 128 CCTV cameras, comprising 61 fixed cameras, 22 pan-tilt-zoom cameras and 45 analytic cameras. Of these, 49 cameras will monitor the outer perimeter while 79 will cover the interior areas. The feeds will be monitored by the Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC). The venue has also been equipped with 18 watch towers, a temporary police station and a temporary control room.Lighting arrangements include 34 towers, 136 LED metal lights, 229 pole lights and 15 high-mast lights. Teams from the electricity department and the municipal corporation will remain deployed on-site. The programme will feature a parade by 21 contingents and 12 departmental tableaux highlighting various govt schemes. Engineers from the building construction department have installed barricades and repaired boundary wall gates.The Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) will oversee sanitation arrangements, including mobile toilets, while the public health engineering department will manage water tankers, water ATMs and hydrants. Medical arrangements include three primary health camps at the entry gates and an isolation centre behind the main pavilion with oxygen and life-saving drugs. Two fire units will remain stationed at the PIR with additional units at the main gate and VIP parking area. The traffic police and the district transport officer have also prepared parking arrangements and alternate routes for the public.
