Jaipur: The city police Friday arrested a 32-year-old man who stabbed his sister-in-law to death after she repeatedly turned down his marriage proposal a day earlier in Shastri Nagar.Deputy commissioner of police (North) Karan Sharma said the accused Anil Dhanka was taken into custody within hours of the attack in which his sister-in-law Poonam Dhanka (30) was killed.Sharma said the accused worked at a plastic factory in the VKI industrial area and lived in a rented room nearby. After the death of Poonam’s husband about four years ago, Anil allegedly began pressuring her to marry him, a proposal she repeatedly rejected.Police said the accused followed and harassed the woman for some time.A heated argument reportedly broke out between the 2 a few days before the murder, and Poonam’s in-laws earlier warned Anil to stop stalking and pressuring her.On Thursday evening, police said, the accused followed the woman as she stepped out after finishing household work. When she refused to speak to him, he allegedly attacked her repeatedly with a knife. After the attack, the accused fled the area. Police said 3 teams were formed and a sustained operation was launched, leading to his arrest late Thursday night.Police said Poonam worked as a domestic help after her husband’s death to support her 2 sons, aged 13 and 8, both of whom were studying in private schools.“Poonam’s mother-in-law is now taking care of her 2 sons. The accused is being interrogated specifically about how long he was planning this conspiracy,” the official said, adding that police will ensure that the accused gets strict punishment.
