Kashi surpasses growth target ahead of GBC 5.0

Varanasi: The holy city of Varanasi is progressing rapidly on the path of industrial development. A review meeting of the district-level ‘Udyog Bandhu’ and ‘District MoU implementation unit’ was held on Thursday at the Collectorate auditorium under the chairmanship of the district magistrate Satyendra Kumar.The meeting revealed extremely encouraging and positive progress regarding Varanasi’s industrial landscape. According to the authorities, against the investment target of 6,000 crore given to Varanasi by the UP govt for the upcoming Global Investors Summit (GBC 5.0), the district achieved 6,439.99 crore. This was approximately 107% of the target, with projects worth 3,555.26 crore already registered on the ‘Nivesh Sarathi’ portal.The district proposed investments of 21,589.22 crore through a total of 198 MoUs. Currently, 70 projects are fully operational, with 2,760.69 crore investment already on the ground. Work is progressing rapidly on the remaining 52 projects. The industrial department is active regarding the proposed textile park on 75 acres in Ramna village. Several meetings were held with various organisations like the ‘Indian Industries Association’ and the ‘Uttar Pradesh Export Association’ to generate enthusiasm among investors, where local stakeholders showed a positive outlook.In the financial year 2025-26, out of 5,980 applications received on the Nivesh Mitra Portal so far, 5,430 were approved, demonstrating administrative efficiency.The DM directed UPSIDA and other departments to establish coordination with investors and ensure time-bound resolution of all their problems. Additionally, regarding the matter raised by Rajesh Bhatia, chairman, Small Industries Association, concerning industrial estate Chandpur, the DM gave instructions to accept electricity bill payments for industrial power connections through cheque and directed swift action on issues like increasing police patrolling for security. The DM also directed the officials to send proposals for a flatted factory in the district.
