Vadodara: Taking loan from his girlfriend proved to be a costly affair for a man in Mahisagar district as he allegedly committed theft at his own sister to repay debt. The suspect, Surpal Khant, was reportedly being pressured by his girlfriend to repay Rs 2.84 lakh that he had borrowed from her. However, he was caught while attempting to sell the booty.According to case details, Jagdish Dindor, who lives in Charada village of Santrampur taluka, lodged a complaint at the Kadana police station stating that jewellery and cash worth Rs 2.87 lakh were stolen from his house on Jan 14. The jewellery had been kept in a drum filled with grains.During investigation, the Special Operations Group (SOG) received information that a man was attempting to sell stolen ornaments to a jeweller in Virpur town. Acting on the tip-off, SOG personnel kept watch at the shop and apprehended the suspect.Investigations revealed that Khant had stolen the items from the house of his sister Sonal, who is married to Dindor. Khant had been staying with the couple at the time of the theft.“Khant did not have a steady income and had borrowed money from his girlfriend,” said SOG inspector V D Dhorda. “He had pawned her jewellery to settle his dues, but when pressured to return it, he stole the ornaments and cash from his sister’s home to repay the loan.”The recovered jewellery was valued at Rs 3.33 lakh. Police also recovered an extra pair of earrings, later confirmed to have been stolen from the sister’s home but not mentioned in the initial complaint.
