Dibrugarh: Chairman of the Assam State Commission for Safaikarmis, Baijnath Basfore, conducted an extensive inspection of Safaikarmi colonies in Dibrugarh on Thursday, examining the living conditions of sanitation workers and engaging directly with community members to understand their challenges.Accompanied by Dibrugarh mayor Saikat Patra and Dibrugarh Municipal Corporation (DMC) commissioner Jay Vikas, Basfore visited multiple colonies where Safaikarmis reside, personally inspecting houses and quarters. The inspection aimed to assess the adequacy of housing facilities and identify areas requiring immediate intervention.
During his visit, the chairman spent considerable time interacting with residents, listening to their concerns about living conditions, amenities, and workplace challenges. The ground-level assessment provided first-hand insights into the daily struggles faced by sanitation workers, who play a crucial role in maintaining urban cleanliness.“We are committed to ensuring dignified living conditions for our Safaikarmis. These workers are the backbone of our sanitation system, and it is our responsibility to address their grievances promptly and effectively,” Basfore said during the visit.Following the field inspection, Basfore chaired a crucial meeting at the Dibrugarh DC’s office conference hall with presidents and secretaries of various Safai Karamchari Trade Unions.The discussions focused on understanding systemic grievances affecting Safaikarmis, including housing inadequacies, workplace safety, health benefits, and employment terms. Basfore consulted with officials from multiple departments to explore viable solutions and suggested concrete measures for resolution.“We recognise the invaluable contribution of our sanitation workers and will work closely with the state commission to implement necessary improvements. We will establish a timeline for addressing the issues raised today and ensure regular monitoring,” mayor Patra said.
