Guwahati: Two of the accused in the Zubeen Garg death case withdrew their bail pleas during the hearing of the petitions on Thursday, while the court heard petitions of three others seeking bail.The court will pass the order on Jan 30.

Sessions judge G Baruah was hearing the bail pleas of the five accused on Thursday. The court had fixed Thursday for objection filing and objection hearing on the pending bail petition filed by Amritprava Mahanta, Nandeswar Borah, Paresh Baishya, Shyam Kanu Mahanta and Sandipon Garg.The judge dismissed the bail petitions of Shyamkanu Mahanta, who was the organiser of the North East India Festival in Singapore in September last year, and Zubeen’s cousin brother and Assam Police officer Sandipon Garg, after their counsels prayed the court to withdraw their pleas citing “certain developments and personal and legal reasons.”Special public prosecutor, senior advocate Ziaul Kamar, and Zubeen’s wife Garima Saikia Garg filed objection against the bail petitions of Amritprava Mahanta, Nandeswar Borah and Paresh Baishya. Garima filed a written objection.Shyamkanu and the singer’s PSO Nandeswar filed the bail petitions on Jan 17. On the other hand, Zubeen’s manager Siddharth and bandmate Shekhar are yet to file their bail petitions. On Jan 3, Sandipon and PSO Paresh filed their bail petition through their legal aid defence counsels. On the same day, Zubeen’s co-singer Amritprava also moved her bail plea through her private counsel.In its chargesheet, the SIT accused Mahanta, Sharma, Goswami and Amritprava of murder.While Sandipan Garg has been charged with culpable homicide not amounting to murder, the singer’s two PSOs have been charged with criminal conspiracy and criminal breach of trust by misappropriating funds or property entrusted to them.Earlier, the state cabinet appointed a five-member team of special public prosecutors, headed by senior advocate Ziaul Kamar, with Brojendra Mohan Chaudhuri as additional public prosecutor and Kishor Dutta, Pranjal Dutta and Vikash Jammar as assistant public prosecutors.
