Lucknow: At least 21 trainees fell ill during EMT training programme at a private engineering college on Hardoi Road, reportedly after meals on the campus. The incident came to light on Thursday, following complaints of sudden illness among trainees.A medical team from Kakori Community Health Centre visited the institution on directions of chief medical officer and conducted an on-site inspection.According to health department spokesperson Yogesh Raghuvanshi, 18 trainees were admitted to Balrampur Hospital, while three were taken to TB and Combined Hospital in Thakurganj. Another two patients from Thakurganj hospital were later discharged after their condition improved.

“The condition of other trainees admitted is stable,” he said.A health department officer said, “Around 300 people had a meal served at the institution out of whom 25 complained of symptoms such as diarrhoea and dysentery and 21 were admitted to different hospitals for treatment.”Food Safety and Drug Administration department was informed and food samples will be collected for testing to ascertain exact cause of the illness. Further action will be taken based on the investigation report, he added.
