Ghaziabad: Six men were arrested for snatching a bag from a businessman in Loni Border area on Thursday.According to DCP (rural) Surendra Nath Tiwari the arrests were made in case registered based on the complaint by a resident of Dayalpur Delhi, Vikash Singh on Jan 18. Singh in his complaint told police that on Jan 16 his father Kesari Singh, who runs a shop named Gange Marbles near Lalbagh vegetable market, was going home around 8pm with his employee, Ravi, on his scooter. About 50 metres from the shop, six men came on two motorcycles and hit his father and employee with sticks on their heads. They lost balance and fell off the scooter. The men then snatched the bag in the businessman’s possession and fled on the motorcycle.
The bag allegedly contained Rs 2.5 lakh. Based on the complaint received, a case was registered against unknown persons under sections 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt) and 309(4) (punishment for robbery) of BNS at Loni Border police station.The DCP said that three teams, along with a SWAT team and Loni Border police team, were formed to investigate the matter. The teams arrested six people in the case. Police recovered Rs 67,500 in cash from the accused.The two sticks used in the incident and two motorcycles, were also seized. During the arrest, three members of the gang fled the spot on a third motorcycle. Police are trying to trace them.According to police, the six men arrested, Aman Gujjar, Monu Gupta, Waseem, Harsh, Faisal alias Faiz and Mayank are all residents of Loni.The men told police that they had been involved in the snatching incident on Jan 16. “They had snatched the bag and taken out some money. Then, they saw that the the businessman and his employee had been hurt badly.
So they decided to wrap the rest of the money in a polythene bag and leave it hidden in the bushes. They were going to distribute the rest of the money today when we caught them,” the DCP said. They also told police that they had initially taken only Rs 5000 from the bag and it was spent for their entertainment. “They had hidden the rest of the amount without counting it. They had also found a strip of medicine, some papers and a cheque in the bag. Fearing that they would be traced, one of the men, Monu Gupta had torn up the cheque and thrown it in the drain,” he added.
