Aizawl: Police officials seized 2.288 kg of heroin on the outskirts of Hnahlan village in Champhai district on Tuesday, police said on Thursday.Based on intelligence inputs by Assam Rifles personnel posted at Hnahlan village, police officials from Champhai Police Station found the contraband estimated to be worth over Rs 4.57 crore in the international market.
Initially, no suspects were found in the vicinity, except a mobile phone lying near the place where the heroin was found. While examining the mobile phone, the police officials saw a speeding car and identified the driver as the one whose photograph was seen in the cellphone.After chasing the car for around 3km, police officials caught up with the car and nabbed two persons — Mohammed Morsur Barbhuirya (36) of Hailakandi, Assam, and Umedh Raja Laskar (27) of Silchar, Cachar district.The duo have been detained at Champhai Police Station where a criminal case under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs & Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985, was registered.Meanwhile, Assam Rifles personnel seized 2.057 kg of heroin at North Diltlang village in Champhai district on Tuesday.A press release issued by the Assam Rifles said acting on credible intelligence regarding trafficking of narcotics in the North Diltlang area, troops intercepted a suspicious two wheeler and on being challenged, the driver and the pillion rider fled and crossed over to Myanmar. A thorough checking of the vehicle led to recovery of 2.057 kg of heroin and a mobile phone.
