Karnataka to showcase ‘Millets to Microchips’ tableau at Red Fort

Bengaluru: Highlighting Karnataka’s journey towards self-reliance and balanced development, the state will present a tableau titled ‘From Millets to Microchips’, at the Bharat Parv event in Delhi’s Red Fort on Jan 26 as part of the Republic Day celebrations.According to officials at the department of information and public relations (DIPR), the tableau reflects Karnataka’s progress across agriculture, education, science, industry and advanced technology. Information and public relations commissioner Hemant Nimbalkar said the tableau symbolises how the state combined traditional knowledge with cutting-edge innovation to build a strong and sustainable economy. Karnataka is among the leading states in promoting cultivation of millets and other sources of nutritious food, while Bengaluru has emerged as a global hub for information technology, biotechnology and innovation. The state has also gained prominence in electronics, microchip manufacturing and semiconductor research, positioning itself at the forefront of advanced technology. These achievements form the core narrative of the tableau. Since 2022, only 15 states and Union Territories have been allowed to participate in the Republic Day parade with their tableaux each year due to security and time constraints, making selection highly competitive. The Karnataka tableau depicts a rising sun symbolising progress, large pots filled with millets representing agricultural prosperity, and a farmer’s family showcasing rural strength. Technological advancement is portrayed through rotating atomic models, robots, a glowing microchip and gold-coloured circuitry. Scenes of space research, telemedicine, drone-assisted agriculture and industrial machinery highlight Karnataka’s integration of science, health and industry. The tableau’s theme was selected from the four concepts shortlisted by an expert committee, which was later approved by the Defence Ministry after rigorous evaluation.
